Matt (3/26) and Adriana (4/20) Armstrong were born and reared in the Chicago area. Matt attended Wheaton Christian High School (Wheaton Academy), and Adriana attended York High School. Matt became an elementary teacher after graduating from Wheaton College in December of 1995. He later earned a Master of Arts in Christian formation and ministry from Wheaton Graduate School (2007). After college, Matt taught sixth grade, seventh grade, first grade, and kindergarten in the Melrose Park and Bensenville school districts. Adriana worked as a bilingual assistant in an at-risk early childhood program in the Villa Park school district.
Matt and Adriana met at church, and they were married in May of 1996. A year and a half later, their first daughter, Graciela (12/19/97), was born. Four years later, their second daughter, Abigail (1/9/02), was born.
In June of 1998, Matt left teaching to begin working in the ministry that would later become Crossroads. Since then, Crossroads has worked with hundreds of students (from third grade up) in the Hanover Park and Streamwood area. One of the unique things about Crossroads is that much of its ministry has taken place in local public school buildings. Currently, Crossroads has eight different clubs—seven of these meet inside of public schools.
Seeing the amazing openness of schools to having a Christian club inside of their buildings, Crossroads Kids Club is at a “crossroads” of its own and is planning to begin pursuing a vision that extends well beyond the local community. Taking what we have learned here, we now desire to empower churches to engage with local public elementary schools to impact communities all over the nation. It is Crossroads’ desire to be a catalyst helping churches understand the legal and practical components of how to get into and work with a school so that every public school elementary student in the nation some day has the opportunity to hear the gospel inside of their own school.
Matt and Adriana are excited to serve with Crossroads at this important juncture. Matt works full time for Crossroads Kids Club as the executive director. Adriana is an active partner in the ministry and also a full-time mom. In addition, Adriana serves the community as the president of the Streamwood Park District board.
